Personal Injury

At the Law Offices of William K. Goldfarb, our legal team has represented individuals and families in a wide variety of personal injury cases. It is important to remember that not all personal injury cases are the result of automobile collisions, oftentimes they involve slips and falls, dog bites, unsafe premises and nursing home abuse caused by the negligence, carelessness, or reckless acts of others.

We are experienced in handling large, complex personal injury cases involving catastrophic injuries, such as brain, neck and back injuries, spinal cord injuries such as paraplegia and quadriplegia, burns, and other severe and crippling conditions.

SAMPLE CASE

A Mecklenburg County resident and patron of Vinnie’s Sardine Grille in Matthews, North Carolina was severely beaten by an off-duty bouncer at the establishment. As a result of the beating at the hands of the off-duty bouncer, the patron suffered severe permanent scaring to the right side of his face and multiple abrasions and lacerations to the rest of his body. A lawsuit was filed against Vinnie’s Sardine Grille for failure to provide a safe premise, negligent training, supervision and negligent handling of the situation in question.

CASE RESULT

This case was heard before a Mecklenburg County jury, wherein, the jury awarded the Plaintiff $5,320.00 USD in compensatory damages and $15,760.00 USD in punitive damages. The Defense appealed the jury verdict to the North Carolina Court Appeals; however, a divided Appeals Court affirmed the ruling, saying that the punitive damages award was proper. Enterprises, Inc., d/b/a/ Vinnie’s Sardine Grille and Raw Bar, No.: COA-01-1282 (Mecklenburg County Docket No.:99-CVS-5469).
